Are you registered by professional bodies?

I am a registered Member of British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and am bound by their codes and ethics as a counsellor. I attend supervision on a regular basis to support myself in my work as a counsellor. I continue to update my skills through regularly attending further courses to gain continual professional development.

How do I get started?

First, we begin with an introductory session where we can find out more about each other, and for you to see whether my style of counselling feels right for you. This session lasts for about one hour, and it is a chance for you to explore what it is you want from counselling.

Why is it necessary to attend sessions every week?

Weekly sessions are helpful to regulate emotions and provide the stability that is so often missing when we feel depleted.

When will I start to feel better?

Exploring painful emotions and troublesome behaviours can be difficult and also very liberating. I cannot offer a quick fix, but I do offer a safe, supportive and caring space where you can express yourself freely in confidence, and be listened to with empathy, without being judged. As you explore your difficulties, and work through the possibilities, healthy changes will appear.

Usually clients begin to feel positives affects after 8-10 sessions, but in some cases the healing process can take longer. In difficult cases, one may need to be referred to a different sort of therapeutic service or specialist.

Will what we discuss remain confidential?

All information disclosed during our sessions will be treated as confidential according to the strict rules laid down by the BACP.

How many sessions do I need?

It is very difficult to define how many sessions would be required as it depends on individual needs. I usually recommend a minimum of 8-10 sessions, but I am open to shorter or longer term counselling based on a mutual agreement.

What happens if I miss a session?

If you are able to give me 48 hours notice of your cancellation, you will not be charged for your appointment, and will do my best to offer you an alternative slot that week. If you are unable to give me 48 hours notice of the cancellation, you will be charged for the missed appointment.
