What Is Counselling?

What is counselling?

Counselling is a safe allocated space in your week where you can reflect on your hurts and worries. Therapy may be needed to address the source of your distress and harmful behaviours. We work together to discover thoughts and emotions that may be causing you pain or affecting how you deal with relationships with others. As we reach an understanding, we look together at practices that help bring about positive changes so that you feel more equipped to deal with the issues that are uniquely affecting your daily life.

Who needs therapy?

Everyone goes through difficult challenges in life. While you may have been able to cope with the challenges you’ve encountered, it’s always a good idea to seek extra support when you feel overwhelmed. In fact, when you realise you need outside help, you’re taking responsibility by facing the challenges you encounter in life. Therapy will give you the mental health tools you need to overcome the difficulties you encounter.

What is trauma healing?

Trauma occurs when people’s lives are disrupted by events like war, genocide, criminal activity, sexual abuse, trafficking, violence and natural disasters. People are traumatised when they experience intense fear, helplessness, or the sudden death of a loved one. While these things are very painful, we can work toward restoration, mental health and trauma healing.

What happens during therapy?

Therapy may be different depending on the goals and the needs of the person. Each appointment typically lasts 50 minutes. Typically, we will discuss the things that are currently happening in your life, things that happened in the past that are relevant to your issue, and review the gains you have had from the previous session. Ultimately, I will help you uncover your hurts and hang-ups, and provide healthy resources for your daily life.

Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself
that you have built against it.
— Rumi
The most beautiful people are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. Beautiful people do not just happen.
— Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.
